This 2018 entry in the Good Beer Guide is a 16th century coaching inn that retains a lot of it's character with a covered central yard. There is a room tothe left of the yard and 3 rooms to the right with a variety of styles. There were 4 Thwaites beers on the bar, Original, Amber and Wainwrights, and I enjoyed the Thwaites Crafty Dan 13 Guns.

A fine-looking old coaching inn; comprehensively remodelled and refurbished inside but still retaining a deal of character. The central entranceway leads to a yard which has been covered over with an impressive timber roof and several small tables at the far end. The bar and a small lounge can be found on the right-hand side and a larger split-level seating / dining area to the left, all with traditional furniture and decor. There is also a more modernised room with a dartboard beyond the bar. As a Thwaites house, I found the Original Bitter (£3.00), Wainwright, Lancaster Bomber and the new MMXVIII IPA.

A Georgian looking terraced hotel/pub in cream render and purple paintwork, with small patio/smoke area. It is owned by Thwaites and, as Mr Harrison says, it is a former coaching inn, as there is a coach entrance that divides the pub part in two.
The interior has four rooms. The first is found on the left, when walking through the coach entrance; the other three are on the right. The room on the left, like all of the rooms, is in a light coffee colour, with wood panel. The only difference in this room is that it has arty photographs in, as well as a TV, with the footy on. In the main area, to the right when walking through the coach path, there are 3 rooms, all with with wood floor. The first is laid out with tables and looks foody (i didn't see a menu), with a small tiled fireplace. The second is the main bar room, where there is another TV - footy on again. This is where the only 3 punters were in, apart from myself. The top room had a pool table, another TV and a nice wood surround, fireplace. The service was fine and there was no music.
Beer; tap stuff with Thwaites Original, Lancaster Bomber and a decent Nutty Black.
This place lacked atmosphere - all the same coffee-ish decor, no pictures and no people. The beer was fine and i would happily pop in for another Thwaites, but having been the Station and The Gate, both of which had people in, this seemed devoid of life
