This is quite an imposing building situated alongside a canal and reached by a track off a country lane. The car park is rather rutted, but large.

Inside, there are a couple of rooms joined together by the bar. Both were decorated with some fairly impressive Halloween paraphernalia. Food appears to be the main reason people come here on a dull autumn day. Although I could imagine that the tables overlooking the canal and some locks to the rear are a popular draw on a warm summer's day.

Music was playing at a volume that was slightly too high. Although, we did have the misfortune of sitting next to the speakers.

On the real ale front, the choice was disappointing - Greene King Abbot, Theakston Best Bitter & Marston's Wainwright. An Old Peculier clip was turned round and the others were hidden by various bits of clutter on the bar, which I had to move to see what was on. The penultimate sentence of the previous review almost 10 years ago sums up my opinion too.

This is a detached canalside pub, which also does accommodation, has a beer garden, kids' play area and is in the GBG. It is a Georgian brick build, with a large 'house' and attached range (now accommodation). It is in plain brick, with two floors of rounded sash windows, small sash windows above and the whole house sitting on a half-cellar level. Entrance is by a neo-classic doorway, up a flight of steps. It is roughly contemporary with the canal, but may have been converted into a pub from a house/farm. The interior is now an open U-shape with the serving bar tucked in one corner. The old rooms are shown by the three fire places (fires aglow). The decor has cream and red patterned wallpaper, with red bench seats, stools and chairs - very traditional. Not surprising, the walls have canal pictures and phots and some memorabilia is also dotted about. They do food, but i didn't eat. The service was ok, and it appeared to be frequented by locals. There is no TV that i saw. Beer; usual tap stuff with M&B MILD and four handpulls with Abbot, Hobgoblin, Spekky Hen and their own beer brewed by Tetley's, which was straight forward. A really nice pub a little let down on the personal front by a basic national beer choice. Definitely worth a pop in though.
