Was not aware of this - it came up under its old name of Jekyll and Hide when I was playing with AI to recommend a pub crawl. Yep, its come to that on how I am getting my pubby inspiration these days, but it has taken me somewhere new :-)

A Davenports house - extremely neat inside, doing pub grub. It had three Davenports on Cask - which believe it or not for a brummie, I had never had. The gold was in fine condition, served in a dimpled jug but not going to get the pulse racing.

Very friendly staff.

A bit out the way, so its unlikely to be a regular haunt for me.

My first visit since the Davenport's takeover. Have to say I was impressed. 4 beers on and very friendly service. The IPA was excellent. Hope they make a go of it but it is off the beaten track so they can't rely on passing trade. Worth the short stroll for me!

Having been thwarted in my attempts to visit the Woodman for the first time in over 7 years on Saturday (it closed down for good less than 12 hours before I arrived), I settled on what was a rather poor substitute with the Queens Head.

Opened a few months ago as a Davenport's pub, the interior was quite dark with Davenport's themed wallpaper. 4 real ales were on, all from the brewery - Original, IPA, Mild & Gold Medal, the latter presumably a slightly stronger variant of their golden beer brewed for the Commonwealth Games, which tasted as if it had been around since the start of the Games. The Mild was in better condition, but wasn't enjoyable enough to entice me back for a return visit. It's a bit out on a limb. So you probably won't find yourself passing here, unless you live or work locally.

Indeed, the pub was much quieter than others we visited in the second city. But I have to say that the bar staff were very friendly and amenable, with one rushing after us to hand a hat left in the pub to one of our party.
