Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Royal Oak

Old-fashioned village-style boozer, with a plain bar along the frontage (with a small alcove) and a larger, slightly higher lounge / dining room at the back, although this was not in use when I called in. The two are separated by the central servery, with a counter at the front and a hatch at the back. A beer garden is also advertised. Disappointingly, just Bass (£3.30) was available from a total of four handpumps, but at least that was in reasonable shape.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Royal Oak

A little, detached Victorian GBG pub, with patio area at the front and deceptively nice garden at the back. Sadly, the exterior of the pub has been rendered in cream and has modern, unsympathetic windows, but hey, keeps you warmer in winter. The pub has a bar room at the front and a the passage that leads to the raised lounge area appears to have once been a snug (maybe an outdoor later. The raised lounge is, as Will states, served by a hatch that makes you feel like Zeus looking-down from Olympus at the people in the bar! The bar has a few mounted footy shirts and is in cream and red. The lounge is in the traditional cream and wood walls and ceiling and has red bench seats. There are a few bottles and general bits of ephemera dotted about and a few general pictures on the walls. There was a small fireplace and an incongruous TV with golf on, as wellas there being no music. The service was very friendly and the clientele was leaning to the mature. Beer; usual tap stuff with GK IPA, Abbot, Spekky Hen, Tim Taylor (also ran dry!) and a good pint of Bass. A reall nice pub, with a more traditional interior than exterior. Nip in, you wont regret it.

Will Larter left this review about The Royal Oak

A very friendly and welcoming village local, with half a dozen hand pumps. These are arrayed along the bar in the front room, and there is also a drinking corridor leading to a raised back room which has a serving hatch. It was very busy on our Saturday lunchtime visit, but we felt at home straight away, to the extent that we returned after Luton's game at the nearby Liberty Way stadium to have one for the road. The atmosphere remained convivial, with only the occasional polite request to move out of the way when I inadvertently blocked anyone's view of the rugby on the TV. The beer quality was excellent: I had Bass before the game and was looking forward to Timothy Taylors Landlord after, but the barrel had been drunk dry. Other beers seen on the bar were Greene King Old Speckled Hen and IPA, so nothing special in terms of variety and choice, but for quality and atmosphere this pub is unrivalled in the area.
