I wasn't originally planning to visit the Salutation whilst in Tynemouth. However, a quick peak inside revealed a decent beer selection, which I was more than happy to try.

The pub has a cafe bar feel and there was a good mix of customers in, ranging from people working from the pub with laptops to a father with his toddler. The young barmaid was bubbly, efficient and clearly enthusiastic about the beers. Real ales were Hadrian Border Grainger Ale, Bass, Tyne Bank Summer Breeze & Black Storm Gold. Craft beers were Northern Monk Eternal, Two By Two Strata DDH, Tiny Rebel Easy Livin' & Clwb Tropica, BrewDog Hazy Pale, Beavertown Neck Oil & Gamma Ray & Wylam Hickey The Rake.

Pizzas being delivered to tables looked very tempting. It also seems that the pub accepts CAMRA vouchers. I didn't really fancy a pint. But having said that, my half of Summer Breeze was quite enjoyable, with more than a hint of lemongrass within. I'd definitely add this to any crawl of Tynemouth pubs.

One of those pubs promoting cut price meals, with tables crowded with menus. There was a Cider Festival on the go on our visit, so well done at least for that. The interior is fairly non-descript. Wells Bombardier on handpump.
