An enjoyable walk here if you approach uphill through St Thomas's Crescent, this pub looks to have been added a fair bit later than the surrounding curved terrace. Pitched at the student population, there’s a plethora of music posters and old pump clips on every surface. Stripped-back décor inside (perhaps too much in places eg the tatty bar front) it's an original boarded floor, plank bench seating and exposed brick behind the bar. Features of note include an old arcade machine and the hundreds of old Newy Broon labels on the ceiling. There’s also an upstairs room which was unexplored by me. Five pumps with four interesting ales and Thistly Cross cider. My Broon Toon wasn't a particularly enjoyable beer but I suspect the fault lay with the brewer rather than the cellar. Whilst it isn't necessarily worth slingshotting out here from the pub metropolis area, it's worth a look-in if you have plenty of time or want to try somewhere new.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Trent House

A good ale drinkers pub this one, with six handpumps and well kept beer. We called on a Sunday eve, where we read a notice on the way in that all ales were £2 a pint on a Sunday, and true to their word, that's what we paid for any of the beers on this visit. So we enjoyed the High House Farm Sundancer and the Roosters Yankee. There was music playing on our visit, which was at an audible level and we also really liked their choice of music. Staff here were friendly and helpful. They also have an excellent collection of new and old, back in the day pump clips. I especially liked the illuminated sign above the door, advertising Newcastle Brown Ale. The £2 a pint offer also runs through the week between 7 and 8.

Lots of bare floorboards and walls covered in posters for bands appearing soon at The Cluny. There's a small room upstairs with a pool table which was being used as football viewing lounge on our visit. The jukebox is excellent, possibly not quite as good as Corbieres in Manchester though. There's a 20p per pint CAMRA discount, but this doesn't apply during happy hour and all day Sunday when all the beers are an amazing £2 per pint. Plenty of different guest ales on the bar and my pint of Sky's Edge Hopmonster was in excellent condition (and a bargain at £2). It is very studenty, but there were also a mix of other punters as well. I liked it in here and the other half was happy enough as well, so we'll be calling back again.
