This is a smallish roughly square room with a central bar and split into areas. It was quite busy on my Friday afternoon visit but I found a seat. It was more basic than the nearby Fitzgerald outlets but pleasant enough. There was music playing but I couldn't hear what it was above the noise.
The bar has eight hand pumps which I noted had beers from Errant, Mordue, Arbor, Swannay and Tyne Bank but I went for the Vocation Chop & Change (£3.50) which was excellent.
It's well worth a visit in a real hot spot for GBG listed pubs.

This is a lovely city centre pub that has been given a classy makeover - and not necessarily of the type you'd associate with your typical alehouse. According to the old-timer I got chatting to at the bar, this used to be a bit of a rough and ready fighting man's pub called The Adelphi, but after falling into disrepair and a period of closure, it was eventually taken over by a local company who also run the nearby 'Pleased To Meet You' pub. The pub has a U-shaped layout, wrapped around a circular central servery. The bar has been carefully attended to, with a lovely dark wood counter and a smart bar back with some wonderfully decorative shelving units. The walls are predominantly bare brick and the ceiling has interesting wood panelling, giving the place a good traditional feel. To the left there is a nice bit of partitioning in decorative woodwork which slightly screens a wood panelled space with decent seating options. The majority of the seating around the perimeter of the pub is in the shape of comfy looking banquettes, whilst a few standard tables and chairs, mainly towards the rear, fill out the rest of the space. Some large cabinets on the right and rear walls house impressive collections of wine and beer bottles and I also noticed a few stuffed birds of prey on some high plinths in the rear right corner. A good collection of pump clips could be viewed around a number of the walls, which hints towards the fine beer range you're likely to find.
There is a pleasing row of handpulls mounted in prime position in the centre of the bar counter, and these were dispensing Mordue Northumberland Blonde, Cromarty Red Rocker and Happy Chappy, Swannay Island Hopping, Credence IPA, Fell Tinder Box IPA, Hadrian Borders Ouseburn Porter and Out There Angara. This struck me as a very good range of beers from the North East and I was glad to find that the Angara was served in tip-top condition. An eclectic keg range included beers from the likes of Camden, La Chouffe and Lancaster as well as several cider options. The staff here were all very friendly and chatty and couldn't have been any more helpful, offering customers tasters and imparting their knowledge on all things beer related.
I thought this was an outstanding pub and a great place to start a weekend long crawl around Newcastle. The place is smart, comfortable, friendly and has some excellent local beers for you to get through. I loved it here and stayed longer than intended, thereby cutting down my planned pre-match pub crawl, which I didn't regret for one minute. An excellent place that should be on any itinerary.

A muted looking thing from the outside but within is a nicely crafted modern alehouse. U-shaped bar with fantastic centrepiece, an antique glass cabinet housing whisky. To the right is exposed brick walling and an inbuilt glass cabinet housing what looked to be hundreds of empty green bottles. To left is a button back sofa and through a gantry entrance an enticing painted wood panelled seating area. In the main bar it’s dark green and black shades - sounds odd but it works. Papers available. Eight pumps at the bar with an excellent selection from around the UK. My Weird Beard Dark Hopfler was in good form. Also an impressive keg selection including Bee Sting Perry as well as a good fridge selection. Available beers are listed on a wall mounted wooden board with ales amusingly titled 'on the pull'. Superb professional barmaid, working all the punters with chat and who gave me the low-down on the whisky cabinet - apparently it was bought at auction and didn't fit the space so the legs were sawn off! I thought this really was a little cracker and worthy of top table listing in the city centre. A double-header with the nearby Bacchus could seriously sort you out for an evening. 8.5
