A surprisingly large old stone-built roadside inn, somewhat modernised inside with new wooden flooring and distressed wood cladding on the bar. A rather splendid blow-up picture of the pub in the 1920s covers one wall. Aimed a lot at food trade, including breakfasts and a takeaway, but it retains a large public bar with pool and darts. There is also a separate dining/function room at the back, and a beer garden and children's play area behind. The cask ales were temporarily off for some reason but should have been Black Sheep Best, Wensleydale Semer Water and something from Purity. It did at least have a tolerable Laine Ripper on keg.
