The rather magnificent frontage proved to be rather deceptive, with a fairly narrow interior not living up to expectations. A strange mixture of old bits and new bits didn't really hang together and was not helped by the continuing presence of 'temporary' Covid screens on the bar. The rather cluttered rooms ramble off into the distance, with a courtyard area with smoking shelter at the end. A couple of large sports screens didn't suit the surroundings and the temperature was decidedly parky. Ales on were just Doom Bar and Tribute - the latter ok but not brilliant. All in all a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Imposing corner building retaining original large windowage with intricate leaded uppers. Inside is a single room decorated in cream and red with a small rear raised area with a TV showing mute news with a function room upstairs. Long bar area which at glance looks traditional but is actually quite modern. At the rear spur is a catering area which on my visit was serving an Oriental buffet, one side and a main or a bit of three mains for a fiver and it certainly smelt nice. Furniture included a lot of modern leather high back chairs, never a more classy or practical pick. Decked out with rugby paraphernalia, though the boxes wrapped in Xmas paper needed to come down. Piped music was modern blues which was nice enough. Selection of papers. Two ales on, GK OSH and St Austell Tribute (decent nick). Also Tiger lager. There's a bit of effort going on here and it's worth a look if you're crawling town and hungry.

The Junction is a thin pub with a bar to the right and seating to the left. To the left of the bar are glass food display cases often seen in pubs that do a carvery, but the only food I saw advertised during my Wednesday evening visit was Thai food. The mains were priced around the £9 mark and I noted the presence of a flight of stairs that I believe lead up to a dining area.

The bar is stocked with standard draught and the three hand pumps were drawing Greene King’s IPA and Old Speckled Hen alongside Fullers’ London Pride. I found the service to be polite, but the sound from the Europa League football being shown via ITV on a small plasma screen was competing with a radio station being aired over the speakers.

To the left of this pub is a small outside seating area that is gated off from the high street.

This pub didn’t really do it for me so I do not plan to return any time soon.
