I paid a brief visit in here the other day for a swift half when I had fifteen minutes or so to kill. This is now an Irish themed pub - as if you wouldn't guess that from the name - with Irish type memorabilia and stuff all over the place. It all looks a bit fake and contrived, but to be honest I don't care much about that.
But the big plus is that they've reinstated real ale, with London Pride and something called Whelan's Pale (brewed by Caledonian and £1.90 a half) both on. The Whelan's Pale came up a bit hazy and the barman offered to change it, but as it tasted OK I stuck with it. I don't like wasting drinkable beer. This is now a few notches up on its days as the Acorn. It's by no means a destination pub, but OK for a swift one if you're in Kingston.

There's now no real ale on here, just John Smith's in the way of bitter, plus the usual fizzy stuff. There were pizza menus on all the tables - with the 10" versions at £6 - £7, which isn't bad going, although I didn't test the quality.
This is more a bar than a pub. It's all new and fairly ordinary. There are some "booth" style banquettes on the left, all with their own little TV screen on the wall by the tables. I've never seen that before. Luckily I found one where the TV wasn't working where I could sit in peace. There are some more banquettes at the back with little round tables, and charcoal/battleship grey painted walls predominate with a bit of exposed brickwork. I can't see any reason to return to a bar that doesn't do real ale, but no doubt others who are not fussed about such things will enjoy this place.
