A nice little traditional local, with several little rooms, nicely-kept beer and good value if basic food. What's not to like? Unspoilt, but in the proper sense - not meaning squalid - and it felt like a proper pub. Beers on included Tring Four Pale and Harviestoun Schiehallion.

A long-overdue revisit. Aside from a bit of TLC and a lick of paint, the place is as it ever was. Four cask on the go, my Tring Side Pocket was in good shape (NBSS 3.5). A healthy lunchtime trade as well.

April 2014
Little change in the intervening few years, the four-roomed, bare-boarded interior remains. Perhaps a little scruffier round the edges now though. Four ales on, W&E Knight of the Garter (pretty good), Hop Back Summer Lightning, Vale Brill and Dartmoor Jail Ale. Dart board spotted and the rear patio is a bit more accessible. Muted music and a laid back atmosphere. A basic boozer with a bit of old charm, still worth the walk up the hill from Egham BR. Rated 8

The Happy Man continues to impress, a nice mix of students and local ale drinkers. The pub is fairly small, divided into two different rooms with a small bar in the centre (two houses knocked together, I believe) with two of the four ales on either side of the bar – look to the back of the bar to see the full range or ask the friendly and knowledgeable staff. Furnishing is basic, wooden chairs and settles with pumps clips attached to the walls. Good quality Thai food is offered. A little gem in an area of mediocrity. Rated 8

An excellent job being done here in this small, traditional multi-roomed boozer. Four rotating real ales at competitive (£2.40) prices, good food, a quizzer and a warm welcome. Featured in the Good Beer Guide 2007 and rightly so. One small complaint, very smoky (open the windows!). But otherwise, top drawer.

Called in for food as we thought it was a Thai food pub, but the menu was normal pub fayre with a couple of Thai curries thrown in. 4 real ales and the two we sampled with the food were in good nick. Goffs Summer Knight and Whitstable East India Pale Ale. The fish and chips and the steak and ale pie and chips went down well with good portions. The pub is not far out of Egham centre and the 71 bus goes by the road end. Featured in the CAMRA North Surrey Pub Guide, and was their pub of the year in 2008. Also 2011 Good Beer Guide entry.
