Quite a splendid old pub in a glorious assemblage of old building with a good traditional beamed interior. Sadly it has become ever more focussed on food, to the extent that on a Saturday lunchtime all inside seating was occupied or reserved by diners. There are effectively three areas arranged round the bar, while at the rear is a large covered open-sided building which houses the Lobster Pot restaurant with its own little bar in the summer but is otherwise available for use. The remaining patio garden is also filled with tables. Beers are mainly from Fullers, with just St Austell Tribute on offer alongside London Pride, HSB and Seafarers. Sadly the condition of the latter was mediocre.

Situated on a little green off the main A245, this pub has low beamed ceilings, a wood floor in the bar area and a couple of fireplaces, one with what looked like a child's rocking horse in front. In line with the pub name, there is a bit of a horsey theme throughout, a few pictures being shown, and a cartwheel dividing one of the pair of side rooms.
The pub is a little erring towards the foody side, and looks to specialise in seafood but not exclusively so. The food servery next to the bar was advertising lobster with a choice of types of chips for something over £20, but I managed to keep temptation in check.
One side room had most tables set up for eating, but there wasn't any issue with sitting there nursing a pint. Mostly traditional seating but I did see a couple of barrels used as tables for vertical drinkers.
Two traditional handpumps either side of the bar offering Youngs Special x2, Hog's Back TEA and Tribute as well as the shiny faux font type ones serving the two beers listed in the review below.
There is a substantial outdoor area to the rear with what looked to be an outbuilding with a seperate bar. There are also a few benches to the front overlooking the green.
An ok spot for a beer or two.

This is a fairly straightforward little pub. The main bar area as you enter is furnished with standard tables and chairs, but there was a separate room on the left with eight tables seemingly intended for diners as they all had place mats on them. But it was almost empty in this room at mid-afternoon on Friday, and there was no problem with us sitting in there and just drinking a pint. There were a good number of drinkers in, and we enjoyed the rare experience of what looked like some regulars moving aside from the bar to let us get there to buy our drinks. Politeness like that is much appreciated.
We saw standard handpumps on the bar counter for Young’s Bitter and Special; St Austell Tribute and Hogsback TEA (£3.25 a pint). The TEA was OK, though not as good as I’ve usually found it. We also saw a couple of what looked like keg fonts for Courage Best and Young’s Bitter, but the barmaid informed us that they concealed handpumps behind them, dispensing cask ale. I wonder what the business thinking is behind making handpumps look like keg fonts? Surely not to dupe unsuspecting keg loving beer drinkers into drinking cask conditioned ale? I didn’t see a menu, although there were various chalkboards around the place, and I did see one punter tucking into some bangers and mash.
I wouldn’t say that this is a “must visit” exceptional pub, but I thought it was a decent enough place to stop off for a pint, and I would be happy to drop in for another pint if I was in the area.
