A large modern restaurant and function suite in a rather splendid setting overlooking the lake, as the name might suggest, and surrounded by golfing facilities. The main area is one long room in a sort of baronial café style, with the bar running most of its length. There are several suite rooms alongside and upstairs, which are very popular for functions, while outside are a large number of tables again overlooking the lake. Sadly real ale is no more, with several banks of keg taps dispensing beer and lager from Shepherd Neame. Great location but sadly lacking on the beer front.

This is the bar/restaurant of Silvermere golf club, and is open to the general public for drinking and/or eating. On walking in it seemed well-appointed, and consisted of a long room with large bar along the right hand side, and a terrace outside along the left, overlooking the mere, hence the name. A wander along the bar revealed a wide range of tap offerings, and a single bank of ale pumps somewhere in the middle, with Masterbrew (twice) and Spitfire. My Spitfire was fine. Main courses started at about a tenner and we ate here: our food was quite decent, but nothing to write home about really. On the plus side, the staff seemed particularly friendly and helpful, though that might have been partly through lack of other customers on a Sunday evening in late October.
I had hoped this might turn out to be one of those really good, slightly out-of the ordinary establishments one occasionally chances upon, but it didn’t. The location must make it a delightful venue to spend a summer afternoon on the terrace, but it felt like it’s trading more on that than anything else, In fairness, I will probably give it another try in the summer, and will refrain from rating it in the meantime.
