A few yards from the station and seemingly unchanged from my first and only visit six years ago. Quite a middle-aged bloke pub - football was showing on the drop-down screen and we got chatting to a pair of lads from Bristol. Pool and darts available. Four cask to have a go at and my Ascot Anastasia’s Exile was in good nick (NBSS 3.5) served-up by a polite barman. A perennial GBG entry and in an area with little else on offer out of the ordinary this is a bit of a default.

A pub as I remember many being from the 1990s, right up to Oasis blaring out of the speakers. A surprisingly large place that's been knocked through a bit but retains two of the four rooms. Decor is pure 1994; green patterned carpet, green and cream striped wallpaper, dark varnish chairs and tables, green embossed paint ceiling. Sports bar in the far room with pool and darts. Jumbo flatscreens pointlessly turned on and in an empty pub utterly dominated proceedings. Four ales at the bar, London Pride, Tillingbourne Gold, Ascot Penguin and Dark Star Hophead; unfortunately half of the latter was almost room temperature and put me off trying another. Also noted Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas on keg tap. I wanted to like the place but the duff ale and looming flatscreen put me off. I noted it was GBG 17; bet the local CAMRA branch haven't drunk in here on an afternoon lately. Rated 6

A large knocked through interior, a little dark inside only lit with side lighting on the bar and far walls, feels almost like a 1970s trad pub throwback with dark green carpet and flock wallpaper. There are two banks of four handpumps in total though only one set was in use, the beers were Ascot Anastasia Stout, Fullers London Pride, Timothy Taylor Boltmaker and Dark Star Hophead, the later being in fairly good condition. Music was at medium level by way of Now Thats What I Call Music 80s, which I could have done without. Music choice aside not a bad pub and worth a passing by stop.
