Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Boat Inn

Traditional (almost) canal-side pub, with the main bar area along the road and a couple of further small seating / dining areas down a couple of steps parallel to the waterway. Refurbished at some stage, but the unfussy furniture and decor works well enough. Also has some wooden benches outside by the car park, but these don't fully benefit from the location. Three handpumps on the counter, offering Landlord, Tribute (£3.60) and Abbot.

ORIGINAL REVIEW May 2011.
Food orientated with an undistinguished interior ,but popular none the less.A very disappointing range of real ales led to a quick retreat. Many boaters have commented on the bizarre pub sign featuring a 350 tonne oil barge steaming along an industrial canal ,while the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal outside the pub only ever accomodated narrow boats, that's pubcos for you.

UPDATE
The daft pub sign is still there but there has been a large improvement since my last visit. The big change was the presence of a very well kept pint of TT Landlord (£3.20) correctly poured via a tight sparkler by a friendly barman, who clearly cares about his ale.Doom Bar and GK Abbott was also on while the fourth handpump was unused.
The original bridgeside building is Georgian, although apart from a range at one end of the tap room, few internal features remain. There is a flat screen, some modern furniture and slatted blinds in the windows. There is a large extension at a lower level given over to dining tables, but in good weather the row of benches running alongside and above the towpath creates a very pleasant spot to quaff a beer or two.
I hope the Landlord experience wasn't a lucky one off,you would be hard pressed to find a better pint in Penkridge, and that's reason enough for an upgrade.

Thuck Phat left this review about The Boat Inn

The Boat has been recently refurbished and some work was still going on outside when we visited. The pub is well located by the canal and it's a nice place to enjoy a pint on a fine day.
Inside it's a modern one roomed affair with an obvious focus on food and many were already eating on an early Thursday lunchtime.
Three handpumps offered Abbott, Black Sheep and Bombardier and the sight of this unholy trinity was enough for us and we moved on. A shame as there are some top quality breweries close by in both Staffordshire and the West Midlands.
A decent stop if you're happy with the unimaginative ale selection.
