UPDATE: I have visited a few times since my last review, and i thought i would pop in last night; sadly, this place, that has been a pub since at least 1818, has been converted to housing. It had closed on a couple of occasions for periods, and the beer choice reduced over the years. A loss.

(SEP 2009) A brick faced, detached pub, a nice builing, though the interior is a bit twee - it has a fantasic fireplace and both beer and naval memorabilia - not a shock, considering the pub is named after the famous 18th century admiral. Has a nice beer garden
Beer was excellent and with excellent choices. Hardy & Hansons Old Trip (which is what i had), Everards Sunchaser, Black Shhep, Old Spekky, Deuchars IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Adnams Explorer. No MILD. Good choice of lagers too for those that like stuff.
After all this, a guy still ordered John Smiths!
Will go more often i think

Very nice traditional pub now owned by Punch Taverns which I’m informed has been a pub for at least a couple of hundred years, the interior looks like it was fitted out at the beginning of the 1900’s and hasn’t been touched much since. Through the main entrance there is a small public bar with a vintage dark wood L shaped bar counter, a fireplace with a rather ornate cast iron surround and interesting photos and paintings of Admiral Rodney and any Royal Navy ships that were named after him. At the back of the bar on the left is the entrance to a small lounge/dining area which has a large fireplace decorated with all manner of brass objects, there are old photos of couples and families on the walls along side a mounted deer’s head!
Regular ales are Black Sheep Best Bitter, Adnams Explorer and at least one changing guest beer from the Punch portfolio (Cask Marque). There are eight hand pumps which have all been in use on my previous visits.
A great traditional pub that has character and some interesting paraphernalia. There is a small but adventurous menu of home cooked food and children are made welcome. Considering it is a fairly small village, Brewood is spoilt for choice when it comes to good traditional real ale pubs (The Swan and The Bridge) all in easy walking distance of each other.
