Cosy old canalside pub, stone and beams and comfortably furnished. Only ales on pump were Marstons BB and Pedigree at time of visit, but in good form. Food not sampled but seemed popular.

Marston's pub in a peaceful location next to Cheddleton station of the Churnet Valley Railway, the canal and also near to Glencote Caravan park.

Open plan layout inside but set out in 3 sections in a dog leg shape, the end part of which was for food and had an warming fireplace. Ceiling beams by the bar were very low but I just managed to avoid injury. A few rips in the upholstery appeared to be just wear and tear so overall it felt like a welcoming place.

Ale offerings included Marston's Bitter, Pedigree, Bank's Bitter, Hobgoblin and 2 empty handpulls. I'd go back if I went to that area again, probably by steam train.

How could I fail to include The Boat Inn on my list. I suppose it's been in my heart since I was a youngster. I still enjoy a walk along the picturesque canal before taking a cool glass and a bite in the bar. Good stuff, traditional, an atmosphere to be savoured. This is the sort of thing I miss, living in Spain. I have to visit when I can
