I remember coming here back in the 1990s when it was a carpeted Ind Coope house with a pet parrot in the bar rather than the more basic style ale house it is now. It's long and narrow with a wooden floor, a dart board at one end and TVs on that nobody seemed to be watching.
As noted below the beer choice is rather mainstream with the only items of interest for me being Gates Burton Ale and Peakstones Rock Black Hole. One of the eight hand pumps was unused and one had a cider. I went for the Black Hole beer which was in good nick.
I thought the unwatched TVs and mainstream beers let this place down but it's worth a look.

An impressive array of eight hand pumps on the bar here, and the even more impressive lincrusta frieze, picked out in green and gold, is almost worth a visit on its own. This is a bare-boards ale house with a good honest feel to it, and while the beer range is not terribly adventurous, it's definitely worth a visit, especially if arriving in Burton by train.

Beers available at the time of my visit were Bass, Pedigree, Abbot, Everards Original and Theakstons Old Peculier, plus Old Rosie cider - I had the Original, which was in good condition and at around £3 a pint, which is fairly normal for Burton.
