Now unofficially Thorpe Hesley's best pub, and the only one apart from the dining pub near the motorway that was actually busy on a Saturday afternoon. Though to be fair there may have been a few here who, like me, couldn't get into the Masons because of a private function. And also it wasn't even that busy here; the barman was so stuck for things to do that he was almost waiting at the elbows of people nearing the bottom of their drink so that he could take the glass off them. This is a very nicely presented pub, with stained glass in the windows mentioning Tetleys (not available) and the pub's name (not changed from Horse & Tiger), as well as in the bar pelmet. The only disappointment was the sole real ale on the bar (among three other pumps not in use): Bradfield Farmers Blonde. This gets universal disapprobation among my acquaintance, but I have to say it was in good condition, and fulfulling its mission of being as close to Stones Bitter as it's possible to get without actually being Stones Bitter.
