A (very) small seafront hotel with the trading floor divided into two halves - an ale bar and a Irish bar. They are both furnished in a fairly traditional pub style, with the Irish side having more assorted decoration in the appropriate theme. Curiously the handpumps are divided between the two, but you have to ask what is on the other side. On this occasion there was Brains Rev. James, Tribute and Wolfpack Alpha Stout, which was rather nice. Overshadowed by Willy's up the road, but not a bad place.

This pub in theory is in two halves, with the right hand side being the hotel lounge and the left being an Irish themed bar called ‘Mucky Muldoons’, although there is little difference between the two in reality. It’s traditionally set out, with plenty of wood and cubby-holes. As well as the usual drinks selection was Theakstons XB on hand pull on both sides, and Black Sheep Bitter also on the lounge side (which I hadn’t spotted until after ordering an Old Rosie cider). It seemed a friendly enough place, but didn’t really light my fire.

I visited the Kings Royal on Tuesday 09/10/2007 and several times in the following days
The Barstaff were pleasant and friendly with a sense of humour.
Although a little quite during the week, weekends are busy.
I will certainly be spending some time there on my next visit.
