A lively atmosphere even at 11:20am on a Wednesday, and a friendly welcome. Almost as important, a very well kept Black Sheep Best Bitter (NBSS 3.5) at only £2.80 a pint. This is probably the only Craft Union pub I've been in that appears in the Good Beer Guide. I immediately regretted asking for just a half, though not because it was served in a Carling glass (for which I received a fervent apology), but on a trip to Brigg there's only 2 hours 40 minutes between the arrival of the only train in and the departure of the only train out, so a level head is essential. I will be back.

The Black Bull is a compact split-level Craft Union pub that had a handful of locals in during a recent Thursday afternoon visit. The bar counter is found on the rear wall to the right of the entrance where it faces seating along the front windows. There is more seating to the left of the entrance, including a high table in the window with views of the passing pedestrianised street. Steps towards the rear lead up to a seating area with a dartboard that was being used by a horny middle aged couple… my eyes! Televisions are found throughout for showing football, and muted horse racing which was airing during my visit. Background music was playing in the aforementioned raised rear section. I noted two hand pumps on the bar, these were drawing Sharp’s Doom Bar and Black Sheep Best. Standard keg was also available alongside Staropramen and San Miguel. Lots of drink deal ads are found on the walls in the bar and upstairs toilet. I found the service to be friendly, but there are better pubs along this stretch so I will walk past when next in Brigg.
