A traditional Georgian town pub in an impressive high street building, which puts beer quality at the centre of its operating model. There is a pleasant enclosed garden at the rear which provides a great oasis in which to hide from the tourists, though on this occasion it was somewhat marred by a bucket of wet fags ends by the smoking shelter. There is a small saloon on the left as you enter, a private bar in the middle and a larger public bar on the right, the latter having a dart board and leading to a separate games room with a pool table. There is also a selection of board games available. The floors are tiled, and there is a brick fireplace containing a woodburner. Dogs are not allowed in due to the presence of the pub dog. The landlady was very welcoming, the locals were grumpy but tolerant. They don’t do food, but you can bring in a takeaway. Ales on were all from Wadworth – 6X, IPA and Swordfish, all in excellent condition, plus Rosie’s Cider on draught and 2 boxed ciders. I’d be very happy coming back here for a few beers as it’s not too turbulent.

Glastonbury is an odd place for Pubs. I have to say.
This is prominent in the high street. Strangely, looks bigger on the outside than inside, but this is probably because the central bar splits the pub in half.
Sparsely populated on a Saturday night - which was a shame. The Wadworth beer (I have the previously unexperienced Swordfish) was superb and the juke box - well, you just need to peruse it yourself. I have heard of the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band, but never heard them play.

Hmmm... very strange - two sole reviews raving about this average establishment and both giving it 10/10 within a couple of weeks of each other? (Don't they realise the perfect pub only exists in mine own fertile imagination?). Methinks I smell a rat!
