My first post-lockdown pub visit found this pleasant surprise just off the Bridgwater town centre. What appear to be a former industrial building, or maybe a chapel of some sort, is entered through decorative gates and a pleasant paved courtyard which gives the illusion of privacy. There are plenty of tables and chairs, and it's relatively sheltered from the wind. Inside, the single large hall has a large standing area with a parquet floor next to a central bar, while the dining tables are spread throughout. Down the side opposite the bar is a comfy seating area demarcated by the structural columns which support the very high ceiling; it is these features that give it an ecclesiastical feel, contrasting with the more functional external appearance. There is also an ice cream counter, while food is served from a canteen-style counter at the far end. Staff were pleasant and helpful, and the presence of families with young children wasn't too unpleasant. No real ale, so I had a pint of East Coast IPA which was a bit too cool for my liking but otherwise tolerable. I probably wouldn't make an effort to come back, but if you happen to be in Bridgwater town centre, and don't mind not having real ale, it's as good a bet as any.
