Quite a few changes since my last review , and not all for the better !

First the good news , the pub is now run as a Freehouse , Marstons Burton Bitter is the permanent beer with guest beers coming from local brewers , usually Salopian or Three Tuns , quality is hit and miss and varies wildly .
Most of the Shrewsbury Town memorablia has now gone , and the bar has had a bit of a move round , the pool table now taking centre stage .

The really bad news is that in its wisdom the County Council , despite objections from local residents and the local council , has given permission for CO-OP to build a new shop on the car park , reducing the pub car park from 80 spaces to just 17 , this will kill matchday trade and probally eventually the pub itself , the nearest CO-OP is just across the road .................... madness

Friendly former Banks estate pub named after Shrewsburys most famous son and around a 15 minute walk from Shrewsbury Towns New Meadow football ground , there is a large carpark with 70/80 spaces free parking on matchdays(no mini-buses on police advice) as long as you use the pub although for some games(when trouble is expected) it is home fans only .
The pub looks like any other old Banks estate pub from the 60/70s but is well maintained , there is a small covered outside area with a few seats and tables by the central entrance , the right leads to the lounge which is more of a dining area although there are a few large TVs showing sport . To the left is the bar , this has a couple of large screen TVs and several smaller TVs dotted around all showing sport , there is a pool table and two dartboards , the ceiling has a collection of (mainly) Shrewsbury Town Scarves and the walls have pictures of various past Shrewsbury Town Teams and various bits of memorabilia from the club .
The food menu is pretty good value , ideal for a pre or post match bite to eat .
Usual keg taps and usually three , sometimes four real ales on , mostly from the Marstons Stable although there are occasionaly others , the beer well kept even if its not that exciting.
Service is very good , usually at least 3/4 staff on , even when the pub is rammmed there is only ever a short wait to be served by the friendly staff .
Its a family friendly pub although the bar can be a bit sweary for younger kids.
This pub is my usual pre-match venue and does the job really well .
