A successful jack-of-all-trades just outside the small village of Wootton and operating as pub, restaurant, inn and community hub having successfully reversed closure and remaining the sole going concern with the downfall of the nearby Kings Head in 2007. An imposing building located on a bend driving out of the village, this former Morland charge has gastro leanings with recommendations from The Sunday Telegraph (one of their Top 500 Eateries in the UK), AA and Michelin as well as being well-regarded by Camra (2014 North Oxon Pub of the Year runner-up). Interior-wise, it's long, rectangular room, with an outward-facing bar (a small room is located to the left on entry) with the requisite exposed stone and bare floorboard along with third-height grey-painted panelling. A restaurant area is accessed up a few steps to the right of the bar. The owners are also in charge of the Ebrington Arms in Chipping Camden, and have introduced their range of Yubberton ales here, with all three lined up on my visit (two further pumps dispensed Fuller's London Pride and TT Landlord). Three halves of each of the Yubberton beers (Goldie, Yawnie and Yubby) came in at £5.10 for the three which is damn reasonable in these parts. The Goldie (a pale ale) and the Yawnie (a brown ale) were both in great nick, with the watery, end-of-barrelly session bitter Yubby letting the side down. Worth the swerve off the A4260 to seek out, and they're to be applauded for taking the plunge with their own beers.
