The Fleur De Lys was certainly the friendliest of the pubs I tried on Sunday in the pretty village of Dorchester-on-Thames, which has an abbey and can be the starting point for walks along the Thames.

Despite it being a nice Sunday afternoon weather-wise, I chose to sit inside in the cosy and atmospheric bar area, where two other couples had seemingly just finished their meals. The 2 barmaids were very friendly and asked if I would prefer to sit outside in their garden. But it was still slightly too cold for outdoor drinking.

Two handpulls were clipped with Purity Pure Gold & Ubu. Upon ordering the Ubu, I was told that it was off and I was offered Longhorn IPA, a keg beer, also from Purity. So, my assumption was that the Gold was also off.

Decent pub. But the only one in the village without real ale.

Traditional interior with some cosier modern touches. Flagstone floor, with some carpeting. Candles on tables, log fires, food. Very friendly locals. Three pumps, two local ales - Loddon Hoppit (pretty good) and Vale Red Kite (reported good). Accommodation offered. Musical accompaniment from a small woodwind orchestra practising in the house next door. Decent grassed garden and Aunt Sally pitch. Nice little place, preferred the more pubby ambience of the George but this one is certainly worth popping into.
