A country Inn that offers rooms, I remember this as the Plough & Harrow from my childhood before its location-specific name change sometime in the 1990s. In essence two buildings separated by a walkway, the right-hand building houses the pub part with a small boxy 'thrust' bar facing you from a small corridor on entry. To the right are two areas sub-divided by an open fireplace; the right-hand side containing three tables with chairs for either drinkers or overspill diners plus two facing sofas in front of the fireplace. To the left are a number of tables in a small area solely for dining. To the left of the bar itself, is a small semi-settle against a wall then access to a generous beer garden with a covered area, recently erected and extended by the current management during the first Covid pandemic lockdown (when all pubs were shut). After a few years out of the GBG, this is back again, mainly due to the quality of the 3 x real ales kept as well as the insistence on keeping them local. Usually from Rebellion, XT, Vale, Chiltern or Tring (price per pint £4.30 currently), and there is a decent display of previous pump clips above the bar if you look directly up. Food is of the pub grub variety and fairly decent. The only bugbear is some of the clientele: for all of the efforts of the current incumbents, some of the locals are of the "village" variety and do hold court around the bar like barflies, so timing can be key.

The Inn at Emmington is a 7 roomed countryside inn with bar and restaurant close to the Chiltern Hills, situated between Chinnor and Thame, on the edge of the village of Sydenham.
It is a recent GBG 2013 entry due to the bar area having three hand pumps which dispense London Pride and then two others from Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire breweries, which were Chiltern 300 and XT3 and the Chiltern Ale was a well-kept beer on my visit.
Has a bit of character internally but is clearly more a bar and restaurant for the locals and people staying, so I can’t see myself making a trip to search this one out again.
But if you are looking for low cost accommodation in the Chilton Hills you can do a lot worse than staying at a GBG listed Country Inn.
