The Unicorn Is a large and only pub by the roadside in the Small village Of Gunthorpe only a stone’s throw away from the River Trent. The pub is tied to Mastons and stretches quite wide with a cream rendering on the outside of the building. The decor inside is rather generic being all carpeted with standard pub co fixtures and fittings. The pub width is long and thin and the bar is sprawled across the back wall as you enter. One really good feature of the pub is its outside seating, particularly the front that overlooks the river and is a sun trap. The front seating was very busy on my Wednesday afternoon visit but the inside was expectedly quiet on such a hot summers day. On the bar were four hand pulls all from the extended Marstons range, these included Hobgoblin, Wainwright, Ringwood Boon Boggle and A pedigree that was conditioning and available soon. The Wainwright was £3.30 but was only average, void of a lot of flavour and a tad old but drinkable. Overall this is a pretty standard Marston’s pub that gets a bit more trade due to its good location and outside areas. More affluent types of which there are a fair few in Gunthorpe would go next door to Tom Brows for a more upmarket drink. I think they are missing a trick here by having such a generic run of the mill pub and think higher end/better range/decor would be a winner. I would return on a nice day if in the area but wouldn’t be too bothered otherwise.

This is a large pub right next to the river trent it has got a small seating area at the front which is ideal to watch the boats go by.
When i first went in this pub it was a Mansfield tied house it is now run by Marstons.
