I have a very soft spot for the Robin Hood as this is my local so for this reason it probably gets a better rap than maybe it deserves.
The robin Hood is located in the heart of Sherwood and sandwiched close between the Sherwood Inn and Dowlings irish bar. Once inside the robin hood has a large selection of comfortable (if not a little worn) bench seating and a large number of wooden seats and benches. A once impressive beer selection has now sadly dwindled due mostly to the roller coaster ride of turmoil brought about by the ever changing landlords and holding companies that seem to rotate every other week. what we are left with now is two of the five pumps occupied with a the very bland and predictable Sharps Doombar (3.15) supported by Castle Rocks Harvest Pale (£3.05). Sadly these are permanents with no sign of a guest beer in over two years. Unfortunately the quality as you can imagine also suffers with the ales kept to a very average standard. This leaves only keg products albeit at rather competitive prices: Fosters (£2.49), Carling (£3.05) Strogbow (£3.20) John Smiths (£2.35) Stowford Press (£3.20), Guinness (£3.45) and Staropramen (£3.70). Ansells Mild was also available until quite recently on keg which was quite a nice drink but now sadly removed with no explanation ever given.
On the plus side the robin hood has a very good welcoming locals atmosphere (a rarity in Sherwood) and has numerous events through out the week with quiz nights (Mondays and Thursdays) and live bands at weekends.
there are probably better places for good ale within walking distance but at reasonable prices and with a warm welcoming feel the Robin hood is probably my pick of the pubs in Sherwood to sit in comfortable surroundings and enjoy a beer, lets just hope in future the real ale can be put back into the pub at the standard it once was.

** Update november 2016
I am still a regular numerous times a week but another set of new tenants and the Greene king acquisition of Punch means harvest pale was supplemented by permanently by GK IPA And Abbot. This was a catastrophic failure as quite rightly none was bought and barrels and barrels were chucked away which has now resulted in them not even being offered and a sole Harvest pale clip which i am told "Sells really well" now i am no genius and I understand they do have difficulties but with the Real ale revolution under way and people ow choosing pubs on the variety of their beers i would think they would have the common sense to try their best to get another nice local beer (plae and hoppy if thats what their customers like) and pick up trade rather than stick to just the one good selling local beer! at worst get a GK seasonal or lees well known beer its not rocket science, sadly I can no longer uphold its rating and now gets a 6, I will still continue to go as its my local but this pub frustrates me no end.

Update July 2018* GK ahve ousted harvest pale and repalced it with the far inferior Greene King Old Golden Hen. This is supported constantly by Greene King Mild (£2.55)permenetly and has been like this for over a year. No guests ever feature.

Update February 2019**
New year new landlord, even worse beer than before. A regular for 7 years kickoed out and barred writing to the brewery baiut bad service and vinegar pints. the four of us spent )14K in that plane in that time me but no more. never mind we got a new quiz and won the stickus jackpot the following week. Really no need to go now, manager wont last long.

October 2019**
landlord sacked after 5 months, LOL!!

The Robin Hood is a fairly large pub that is situated very close to the Sherwood Inn and Dowlings Irish bar.
This pub used to be an Home Ales tied house with a very nice drink of Home bitter and mild on the bar,i have been in this pub on a few occasions and it has always had real ales on the bar,
Once inside there is a smart looking T shaped room, there were two smart areas either side of the entrance, these had comfy bench seating and chairs, there was a larger area to the rear wich had different types of seating and a raised area to the rear of it.
There were five pumps on the bar with three having their clips turned round,i had a drink of Nottingham Centurian which was a very nice mild that went down well, the other beer was Nottingham Bullion.
The pub had nice laid back atmosphere and there were a few other people in om my Tuesday afternoon visit.
I was quite happy in this pub,it is so different to the Sherwood Inn which is a few doors up.
