This is a good looking pub and we approached it with eager steps after our dreadful experience in the Old Rock nearby. Unfortunately this is another keg only pub, and it was my turn for the John Smiths Smooth Crap. Luckily it wasn't as bad as the dreadful beer in the other pub and I managed to down it without having to summon superpowers. It wouldn't have been a proper Alan Winfield Memorial Pub Crawl without at least one of his abominated beverages, so I was glad to get it out of the way in the sixth pub.

The Old Cross is situated opposite St Helens church and a very old cross which it it named after.
The pub used to be a Shipstones tied house with a really nice pint of Shippo's bitter and mild on the bar.
The pub was opened out into a single room many years ago, once inside the bar is to the left, there is a small square shaped area to the front right which has comfy bench seating and stools, there is another square shaped to the rear right which is up a slight step, this area has a pool table and darts board in it.
The main drinking area is to the rear left, this area is carpeted and has bench seating and small stools, there was a real fire on the go on my latest visit with another darts board above it to the left.
There were two pumps on the bar,one had its clip turned round, the other pump had Deuchars IPA on,i had a drink of this which went down very well.
The pub was fairly quiet on my Wednesday afternoon visit.
This is a pub that i have used too many times to mention,it is nice to see real ales back on the bar again.
This has always been a big Forest pub and still is now.
