The admiral Rodney used to be a regular haunt of mine and a personal favourite outside of the city but has sadly dropped in standard since the recent refurbishment. Formerly a Taylor walker Pub (very unusual for a small village pub outside of a city centre) that dispenses seven real ales. Since the refurbishment the lovely carpets have been replaced with hard wooden floors and the original beams coated in some daft modern colour that totally ruined its original appeal! It used to be a warm cosy establishment but now feels very tacky and cold, some nice features remain but I'm my opinion a shell of its former self....rant over.

On the beer front London Pride, Directors, Doombar, Harvest Pale and a house beer from Nottingham brewery always feature along with guests with Welbeck Abbey red feather being one of them on my last visit. Sadly the beer quality has slumped dramatically and the beers now being kept in a very average condition. The prices are also very steep for the area with the pride coming in at £3.60!

This is a great shame as this is still a worth while pub with a great beer garden and snug back rooms pub is sadly no loner what it once was, even the keg lines (referring to Guinness) are questionable in my opinion. If the beer quality can be improoved then this would redeem some of the quality that i believe to be lacking now, they made a unique pub seem rather tacky and generic.

** Update July 2018, Since Gk took over taylor Walker its been rebranded Greene king and they have taken over a lot of the pumps :( worse after the recent refurbishment and on the pricey side. undisputidly worse than it once was.

Attractive, refurbished suburban pub retaining a few hints of the village inn it once was. Apparently now a Taylor Walker outlet, but no obvious branding. Reconfigured at some stage to leave the main part of the bar in the opened-out back room. Two smaller rooms remain at the front. Reasonable mix of traditional and modern furniture and décor. Substantial patio beer garden to the rear. Seven real ales on handpump: the inevitable Doom Bar and Pride plus Directors and two from Castle Rock (Harvest Pale and Elsie Mo) and a pair from Nottingham Brewery (the 'house' Admiral Rodney, £3.65 less 10% Camra discount, and Bullion).

Alan Winfield left this review about Admiral Rodney

The Admiral Rodney is a fairly old looking pub that is situated in the heart of wolloton village.
Once inside the pub had a few different rooms and these were all nice with an olde worlde feel to them, the lounge was carpeted and had comfortable seating and lots of brasses and knic knacks.
This pub used to be an Home Ales tied house and there were two real ales on the bar with both Home mild and bitter being very nice drinks.
The pub now has a decent choice of real ales on the bar with Harvest Pale being a regular here.
