Steve C left this review about Palmerston Arms

The Palmerston ‘Palmy’ Arms has left and right seating areas that are separated by a central wall that runs from the front entrance to a metre or so from the bar counter along the rear wall. There are exposed brick fireplaces in either side and a dartboard can be found in the right. A television was showing the England v Wales World Cup match, I imagine it will be removed once the competition is over. Music prints and posters are up on the walls, many of which are for sale. On the rear wall the glass backbar reveals all the casks on stillage. The polite barmaid was getting plenty of exercise walking from the bar into the rear to pour the ale. I’m not sure if the hand pumps on the bar are redundant and just for show or if they were having issues. Available during my midweek evening visit were Bateman’s England Expects, Oakham’s Citra, TT Boltmaker and Castle Rock’s Elsie-Mo. Bateman’s XXXB and Gold were listed as coming soon. Aspall cider was also available alongside Weston’s full Rosie range of ciders. Kronenberg was also available for the heathens. Worth a look.

Bucking Fastard left this review about Palmerston Arms

Situated in a down at heal area, this is a traditional Bateman's house but doesn't look much from the outside. However once inside this is clearly a leading ale house. There are two sections either side of the front door, both with traditional if worn furniture, the place feels lived in.On the walls are lot of album covers and music posters .The bar is on the left side but the star turn is the plate glass screen which gives views into the sillage room with a multitude of barrels racked up.There is a usedful beer menu on the left wall and the friendly barmaid will fetch your ale from the stillage area.
There is a huge selection beside two Batemans (Gold and XXXB on my trip). There were 8 guests on my visit with Nene Valley featuring large with their Bitter,Loop Daddy,Egyptian Cream (NBSS 3.5),New Age Chesnut (NBSS 4),Bible Black Porter along with Bakers Dozen Big Twig and Spanish Inquisition and Adnams Ghost Ship .That's quite a line up with a good mix of styles and my drinking campanions also reported very high ale quality. There is real cider and some craft keg if you really need any more options.
There is a genuine boozer atmosphere here ,everyone was very friendly and these basic pubs can be great fun.IMHO this is a must visit when in Peterborough and is certainly walkable from Charters.

Old Boots left this review about Palmerston Arms

Old traditional pub with two rooms knocked nearly into one, the dividing wall is almost intact ending near the enlarged counter area. Just one pull on the counter but a blackboard to the side and windows behind the servery reveal a choice of a dozen or so casks. Live music (1960s in style this evening).
