Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Rufford

Large, imposing roadhouse on the Chesterfield Road heading out of town. Real ale has been discontinued here, leaving this to be a spacious family and food-focused pub with TVs and some of those sweet machines scattered around to entice the brats.

The keg selection was Carling, San Miguel, Stella Artois, Guinness, Moretti, Carlsberg & Tetley's Smooth. I couldn't even find a keg cider. Although there were bottles. The 3 female bar staff outnumbered the customers, of which there was only one other.

At the rear is a large car park and surprise, surprise, a children's play area. Speaking to locals in the Railway later, they declared that this used to be a decent pub for ales and it was even in the Good Beer Guide back in 2011. Alas, its direction has taken a distinct downward turn since then.

Will Larter left this review about The Rufford

This is a Marstons out-of-town pub, by a busy road junction in an ill-defined area that is close enough to walk to from the town centre. Largely given over to food, there is an area near the bar with comfortable seating for drinkers and a nearby pool table and darts board. To be honest, this is not my sort of place, and I had to wait a few minutes to be served, as some late afternoon diners were ordering their dangerously chocolate-laden desserts. What kept me waiting was the sign which read "Burton Bitter £1.30 a pint - while it lasts". The other beers were Wychwood Hobgoblin and Marstons Help for Heroes. The Burton was clearly a little past its best, but still drinkable - besides, I felt that the walk out here deserved some sort of refreshment, rather than just take my photo and move on. Not my sort of pub at all, but it appears to have its own niche in the market, and seems popular enough.
