Strongers . left this review about The Pop Inn
Pop Inn is a local boozer with donated Football League shirts across the ceiling and televisions for airing the football, which suited me just fine because I was looking for somewhere to watch the match. The small interior is L-shaped with seating either side of the central entrance and a serving counter up the right-hand wall towards the rear. There’s also a dartboard and some Mod Lambretta memorabilia on the walls. Premium and standard keg products were available from the counter. On the face of it the pub itself doesn’t really stand out from the rest, however I really enjoyed watching Brentford humiliate West Ham and the governor and his mate made me feel very welcome even though there were only a handful of customers in. The pub shuts at 22:00 on a Monday, so when the match had finished Gavin, the governor, locked up and… wait for it… gave me a lift back to my hotel which was over 30 minutes’ walk away because he was going that way anyway. What a legend! I’ve scored the pub itself a 6, but the homage to lower league football and the people I met during the evening add another 4 points so a very rare 10 from me.

Real ales and ciders are prominently advertised on the end wall of this pub, though there was only one ale on hand pump at the time of my visit - I didn't see any cider: perhaps a polypin would have become apparent on closer inspection. The three hand pumps showed signs of regular use, so it may have been just bad luck to find just Thwaites Lancaster Bomber represented on the bar. The beer was in good enough shape, but it seems likely that the clientele, represented on this occasion by a couple of lads in Nottingam Forest and Liverpool shirts, playing pool, are more likely to be lager drinkers anyway. It must be hard to try to break into the real ale market when you're just around the corner from a Project William pub, so the effort must be applauded. This one is not really a must-visit from the real ale point of view, though.
