The Pilot is a backstreet local, a little away from the centre of town. I made a beeline for the front room with access to the bar (to the right-hand side of the central corridor). So, I didn't get chance to explore the other rooms. I assume this is the most popular drinking area, as it was fairly busy and meant I had to share a large table with what appeared to be a fellow beer/pub nut, who proceeded to list and talk about seemingly every pub in Northumberland! Whether there was even anybody else in the other rooms, I'll never know!

3 real ales were on - Rigg & Furrow Run Hop Run, Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted and Morland Old Speckled Hen. The real cider was Thistly Cross Whisky Cask.

Worth getting (stumbling in my case) out of town to.

Terraced backstreet pub, well-away from the others in town – if you’re crawling then make sure to take it in either first or make time for it be last. Pretty unspoilt inside (CAMRA listed - regional), two rooms off a tiled entrance corridor with an unlit rear room behind. The bar is in the right-hand room; nice and cosy with pub carpet, fabric settles, attractive lower bar, boxed wood walls, 70s fake beams (?) and a lot of hanging brassware. I visited twice; first time round the three pumps had beers from Loch Lomond, Great Eastern and Hadrian Farne Island (pump tired BNSS 2.5). A swift one before my train home a few days later found a much better (3.5) pint of Great Northeastern Golden Tap. I liked the pub but the cask turnover seems a bit sporadic. Beware that Scottish notes can end-up in your change here which isn’t much good if you’re just about to get your train back down south!

Comfortable locals' pub in backstreets. There is a bar room on the right with a lounge opposite, and a small snug behind. The decor takes you back 30 years or so but overall it is pleasant enough. Outside there is a garden at the rear. A changing selection of well kept beers warrant regular GBG listing. On this visit: Rudgate Ruby Mild; Hadrian Farne Island and Great North Eastern Golden Tap. A good place to enjoy a nice pint.
