Will concur with the previous reviewer that the Wheatsheaf is a good looking stone pub with a great position on the village Green in Braunston , but unfortunately the interior does not match and is more akin to a social club interior with the emphasis on Sky sports and fruit machines complemented by skittles table and pool table.
Again only two of the four pumps operational for our visit with Hancocks HB and Greene King Abbot and my half of HB was average to say the least. Also got the feeling that this one was missing some essential TLC and subsequently finding that the lease of the Wheatsheaf is currently up for sale makes me wonder how long this one has got to go as a pub.

The stone built exterior of this pub is more impressive than the interior,it's no more than a basic village boozer. The etched glass door gives way to the island bar directly infront while to either side of the bar are two wings, the left with a pool table, gaming machines and a Northamptonshire skittles table, the right a real fire and a dart board to the rear. The furniture is a mixture of worn wooden traditional tables and chairs and a sofa is thrown in for good luck. The lighting was rather dim,the carpet threadbare in places, and the pub seemed in decline. However Sky Sports is televised and the featured darts was a talking point among the regulars.
There is a cabinet on the bar serving Pukka Pies, which are available on their own or with chips, this being the extent of the food offering.
There are four handpumps but only two operational on my visit with Hancock's HB and Caledonian Autumn Red (£3)not in great shape but I suspect that not much real ale is shifted here. The welcome was friendly enough and always good to see a real fire, but I'm not sure that would be enough to warrant another visit.Note that the pub only opens at 4pm during the week.
