Bar to the right as you enter with a room in front of it for drinkers. Long room on the left for diners and a nice terrace area to the rear. Two weak real ales on offer.

A cream painted double fronted old pub in a small village a mile and a bit north of Thirsk on what was the main road from Thirsk to Teesside before the A19 dual carriageway was built. Inside a single open plan L shaped room with a conservatory at the back and a large pleasant, garden and patio beyond that. To the right is the bar counter, with a small seating area in front having a couple of tables, stools and a sofa. To the left is a larger space with a mixed bag of old brown tables and chairs all permanently set up for dining, the candle, cutlery and condiments syndrome. Two handpumps on the counter with beers from John Smiths and a very good Black Sheep Bitter, however the small counter side collection of pump clips displays the former guests, the current and future guests are shown on a hymn board at the side of the bar. The keg choice is provided by a Guinness fount and a T Bar with common or garden Strongbow, Stella and Fosters, a bit of a foody place so a number of wines some of which are chalked up on the blackboard above the counter. Décor is bland with a darkish carpet and white walls relieved by a couple of prints, there is also a small cast iron fire with a champange box beside it, (firewood?) and some block and tackle, beside the front door is a chimney pot. Strangely it closes on Tuesdays rather than the more common Mondays.
