I arrived a few minutes before 12 noon to find piles of glasses on the counter and two or three lasses cleaning the shelves. Thinking they were not yet open, I was on the point of turning round and coming back later, but they exclaimed that the pub was in fact open but that it was so quiet they thought they'd do a bit of cleaning. Once the space around the two hand pumps had been cleared, I was served a pretty good Daleside Worlds End Ale, which is just Daleside Bitter with a different pump clip, I guess. I quite liked the contrast here between the "Victorian" interior at the front of the pub, with gorgeously plump, crimson leatherette on not just the banquette seating but on the front panels of the bar counter too; and the oh-so-classy flock wallpaper; and who could forget the garish and/or flamboyant carpet. A moment of sobriety is introduced by a large scale Ordnance Survey map showing the "World's End PH" on one side of the river, and across High Bridge, the no longer extant George Hotel. And then we have the dining room extension, all modern RSJs and bare stone walls, trying its damnedest to look like it's been hacked out of the sandstone cliffs above the River Nidd. I had quite an enjoyable few minutes here while I supped my half, despite the somewhat intrusive background music and the hard to ignore smell of fried onions escaping from the kitchen. I was saddened to think that the pub is not open in winter.

Located at the bottom of the A59 hill almost next to High Bridge and almost with a riverside terrace. A faux Victorian interior with bench seats, britannia tables and stools in the room to the right and older style padded chairs and tables to the left. The right hand side has a dart board and a nice carved and tiled fireplace with a splendid model of a ship on it. Brass and china nic-nacs of all sorts abound here, and the framed old postcards showing both sides are interesting. Four handpumps but only Deuchars, in as a good condition as you will find this well known diacityl bomb, was available. A keg range of standards from Carlsberg, Guinness, San Mig', Tuborg with the smooth from Tetleys and the cider from Gaymers, all served by a mittel European barmaid with a habit of disappearing frequently. Live music is advertised for Fridays and the pub appears to belong to the same company as The Blues Bar and West Park Hotel in Harrogate and the Duck & Drake in Leeds. You should note that this pub has seasonal opening hours, it doesn't open at all during the winter! Check before you visit or be prepared for a fruitless walk down hill from the Town Centre.

This is a decent looking pub down a hill from the town centre and it is next to the river.
Once inside here the pub was busy with elderly people dining but drinkers were made just as welcome.
There were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Black Sheep bitter which was a decent drink the other beer was Ruddles County.
