A slightly trendified sort of place by the Low Bridge - an old building with a couple of real fires but a bit stripped back with light furnishings. And some hipsterish music. No complaints about the beer though; draught ales were Roosters YPA, Theakston's Best, Small World Twin Falls and a very tasty Bradfield Farmers Stout. Pizzas are available Tues to Thurs evenings (closed weekday lunchtimes) otherwise food is limited to cold platters. There is a small terraced patio outside and if lucky you can find a few parking spaces down the lane past the pub, otherwise there is a paid car park nearby. Generally rather pleasant.

This was another pub that I'd had to miss on my midweek visit to Knaresborough, as it's not open until 5pm, but at weekends it's noon. It's a mix of traditional pub furniture, bare boards and walls painted in duck shell. The bare chimney breast to the right is a feature. The bar is immediately apparent on entering, and the young man attending was friendly, welcoming and happy to talk about beer. The four hand pumps gave a choice of two from Roosters, plus one each from Arbor and Durham. I went for First World Problems, a stout from Roosters which was in good condition.

The Half Moon is a well run freehouse, which was only refurbished a few years ago. You can see from the pub's interior, that the emphasis here is attention to detail. The service and beer quality is also top class. There were four ales on handpump, so we went for the Roosters Bed Racer and the Great Yorkshire Brewery Yorkshire Golden. We took our beers into the patio area, which was a real suntrap. You also have the option of being able to take your beer and sit beside the river, only problem there is your beer is served in a plastic glass.
