A large mock Tudor building in the main village street, and close enough to the football ground to make it a pre-match venue. It's been opened out into one large space, with the long bar counter central and towards the rear. There were four hand pumps at the time of my visit, one Saturday afternoon last summer, with just two beers on (Wainwright and Brakspear Oxford Gold) and one pump clip turned round (Bombardier), from which I deduced that it's a Marstons pub. My half of Wainwright was ok (NBSS 3) but it's hard to get enthusiastic about this beer even when well kept.
I'd return if Hallam FC were playing in the same league next season, but that's now looking unlikely.

I used to visit the Duke of Cumberland occaisionally. I lived at Melton. My nephew had his wedding reception here.
