Thuck Phat left this review about Ale Taster

This place has something of a micro pub vibe being fairly minimalist with beers on stillage.
Four ales were on: Rocket Maverick, Rocket Komet, Dunscar Bitter and Shardlow 5 Bells.
We found these to be uninspiring and didn't opt for a second although pickled eggs and pork pies are also available.

Bucking Fastard left this review about Ale Taster

The new name has also lead to a complete refurb for what was previously a small back street local. It's been stripped of original features and is open plan with pine flooring and pine seperate tables and chairs at the front making it look like a cafe. There is a bar billiards table to the left side.Beyond the mid pub bar, there is a rear section with it's own bar access with some more traditional tables and chairs leading to a beer garden.
The USP here is ale from stillage, with a cooling cabinet holding 6 casks,of which 4 were drawing on our Wednesday evening visit. However the options were either low ABV or a rather sweet and malty Shardlow Five Bells. My Rocket Brewery Comet was clear, yet dull and lifeless,it could have done with a tight sparkler and that's the problem with stillage dispence. You may be able to tick off a new brew here, but I shifted on after a pint. However the pub is well supported by the local community ,so serves a purpose.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Hog & Partridge

The Hog and Partridge is set in the back streets and a short walk from the town centre.
Once inside there is a single L shaped room which runs to the rear right, the room is bare boarded and the seating is bench type and pew seats and small stools.
There was a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Long Man Session IPA which was a very nice and well kept beer, the other beers noted were Adnams Mosaic,Cambridge Black,Adnams Ghostship and Grainstore Ten Fifty.
There are lots of boardgames available.
This is a decent pub with a good choice of real ales, just a shame it was empty on our Saturday afternoon visit and it also looked like it was up for sale,so its future now seems in doubt.
