Incredibly there's a Spoons in this small market town and yes, it was rammed. Modern interior, with interesting mirrored lower servery and a big skylight at the bar which was welcome. Less welcome was the cask; just one guest, a stale and cardboardy Hobgoblin (NBSS 1.5). Decided to grab a herbal high and that was also a mistake as my Pepsi tasted of aniseed. My pizza was generous on the chillies at least, the only positive. Very poorly run Spoons which made a mockery of its GBG'23 listing.

This is currently the newest Spoons having opened on the 20th March. Looking at it from the street there seems to be little change from the White Hart other than a new pub sign consisting of a model of a sailing ship.
As you enter it soon becomes apparent that big changes have been made with the original pub area forming smaller areas at the front and what is presumably a large new extension at the back forming the bar area and kitchen. This is an open plan area with a few booths, the bar on the right and the kitchen at the rear. There is the usual mix of high and low seating and a large skylight adds to the light coming through glass doors on the left and rear which lead to an extensive patio area. There was an almost total absence of any Daytime Brigade but quite a few young children with one or both parents.
There are two sets of six hand pumps which had the IPA version of the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled, a cider, Woodforde's Wherry, Bath Prophecy, Adnam's Lighthouse, Oakham Citra and Lancaster Red. During an extended stay I tried four of these (all £2.29) and apart from a slight haze on two where it was the first poured they were in good nick. A lot of new JDWs have higher prices than average but that's not the case here including the food.
All in all I thought this was a pretty good Spoons.
