A very fine exterior with a dutch gabled end,old brickwork and famous for a failure by Charles I to come to any agreement with the Parliamentarians. The interior is less impressive but an effort has been made to intoduce a community vibe and there was a friendly welcome from behind the bar.The servery is ahead of the porticoed side entrance with high tables opposite,a small wing to the right and a larger section to the left culminating in a raised section winding around a chimney breast.Out the back there is an undercover section in the beer garden which had been hired for a private function. There is a fine drawing room on the first floor unvisited by me.

It was Tuesday quiz night with the compare wandering around with a mic and being jolly. On Thursdays there is bingo ,and these events seem to suit the mature client base.
Three handpumps will despence Windsor & Eton ales but just their Knight of the Garter available on my trip,a struggle to draw but passable ,NBSS 3.
Reading past reviews I feared the worse but some effort has been put in here and my visit was enjoyable but would have been better with more ale choice.

This pub is in a Grade II* Listed building dating from the 17th Century, and is where King Charles I met Parliamentarians to try and end the civil war. With a pedigree like that it really should be a magnificent pub, but unfortunately it's not. It does look a magnificent building from the outside, but inside it's nowhere near as large as you would expect, and is in fact quite ordinary. There's a nice stone built firepace at the back, and a bit of unusual carved woodwork around picture rail height, but other than that there's nothing of heritage interest.

The bar counter faces you as you enter; there are one or two tall tables/tall stools on the right; and half a dozen or so good quality normal tables and chairs on the left. It's bare-boarded of course, and there's a fruit maching by the entrance. There was also a TV on the right, showing the news when I was in during a midweek lunchtime. There is a bit of outside seating at the front, but being on a busy main road meant that it wasn't the most relaxing place to sit.

There was just the one ale on - Doom Bar at £1.95 a half. There were quite a few people eating - the food seemed reasonably priced as I recall with, for example, the chilli con carne at £6 or £7.

I don't think I would paticularly wish to visit this one again. There's nothing really wrong with it, but on the other hand there's really nothing to draw me back.

The Treaty is or should i say was, the best alternative pub for miles around, unfortunately in recent times its been hijacked by young chav twats taking advantage of the late closing. If you like your music its brilliant, its like a little bit of Camden in Uxbridge.
