Quite obviously not a chain pub - an old school local with a slightly shabby yet strangely homely interior. Heavy curtains and wood pannelling create a slightly dark feel, while furnishings seem to include a number of old sofas, especially in the cosy central area. A rear extension room acts as the restaurant and functions are also catered for. Four handpumps offered Courage Best, Landlord, Ringwood Razorback and Doom Bar, which was luckily off. Food evenings and Sunday lunch only.

This is the first pub you encounter if trudging the mile or so from Sunbury station to the riverside, so it was pretty much odds on it was going to get a visit from me. On entering it immediately feels like a buzzy locals pub, there were around a dozen in yesterday mid-afternoon, chatting, playing the machine and exchanging banter with who I took to be the landlady. The front area has the bar, some ceiling beams, the floor boarded with the adjoining seating areas carpeted. The room then meanders around past the bar and through another area with a couple of sofas eventually leading to a conservatory type dining area. here is additional outdoor accommodation in a side garden plus some bench seating to the frontage.
The bar area has light brown wainscoting, banknotes along the bar back, framed certificates for "Help for Heroes", various nautical objects including ships' lamps, model boats, sailor figures on the fire mantle, framed articles concerning anchors and deck fittings, paintings of sailing ships, the rear sofa section had a boat shaped frame housing a collection of knots and maritime flags.
Clearly they do food having the restaurant area at the back but I didn't catch a sight of a menu or indeed see anyone eating, a couple were finishing off with coffees. Dog friendly, evidenced by the water bowl and more so by the sign outside proclaiming so.
Beers were Ringwood Best Bitter (£3.50), Timothy Taylor Landlord, Courage Best and Directors.
A nice pub with a definite community feel, newspapers on a window cill, I liked the feel of the place but they could do without the commercial radio station (Heart TV) playing via a drop down TV screen.
