This is a small mid-terrace pub just off the Commercial Road, and everything about it seems magnificently shabby and lived in, and definitely without the chic. The floor looks like wood effect plastic covering, and the upholstery on the chairs where I was sitting was split. On the plus side, the original Charrington green banded glazed windows were still in place in the upper parts of the windows. Despite the presence of two magnificent brass bound, possibly antique, handpumps on the counter there's no real ale, just keg Tetley and John Smith's, plus the usual bogstandard lagers. I didn't see any sign of food on Wednesday afternoon. Decorative features include a traffic cone in one of the corners, and "congratulations" bunting affixed to the front of the bar gantry.

One has to visit this sort of pub now and again to see a basic East End locals' pub in action. In fact they had a half dozen or so punters in, which I guess must keep them ticking over. This is a real locals' boozer, but in the absence of a decent real ale I'm unlikely to visit again.

The White Horse is a very small basic pub that is situated just off the very busy commercial road, after a quick walk round this area this was the olny one of five other pubs i had seen that was open at just after 11am.
Once inside there is a very small square shaped room with the bar facing, the floor was wood laminate type and the seating was small tables and chairs with a small bench seat either side of the front door, there was a small seperate area up two steep steps to the rear.
There were no real ales on the bar,but there were two unused pumps,i had a drink of John Smiths smooth crap which was a bit better than usuall, the other beer was Tetley smooth flow.
The pub was empty on the eary dinner visit,i had a good long chat with the landlady which i quite enjoyed.
There are not that many pubs left like this in the East End of London, give it a go and see what pubs looked like in the 50s or 60s.
