A slightly convoluted history here: this pub has been here since at least the mid-18th century, when it may have been known as the Cherry Tree; certainly there was a pub in this vicinity of that name at the start of the 19th century. However, to the west was a former pub called the [Old] Globe (giving its name to the surrounding Globe Town and conveniently situated on Globe Road) which closed in 2010 and is currently Ladbrokes, this pub being renamed in 2020.
The interior – or what remained of it since Rex’s visit – has been utterly stripped out and is visible on the pub’s website; what isn’t visible is the 1930s’ church pulpit, which serves as a main focal point, along with an old motorbike mounted to one of two semi-circular banquette booths; otherwise it’s quite industrial, the only clue as to the pub’s former finery being a rather good bar front. Loud music played, AC/DC’s Highway to Hell, appropriately enough.
There’s no real ale here anymore, though there were two unused pumps, partially obscured, me plumping for a half of the Hackney Kapow ‘craft’ at £2.85.
This should be a major pull for young locals, but there were just three other customers, a loud American, loud East European and deathly quiet woman, glued to her laptop.
This isn’t a pub anymore, so doesn’t warrant a return visit.

Doom Bar was on here (£3 a pint/£1.60 a half), plus a Hobgoblin clip reversed and a third pump apparently unused. There was no sign of any food when I was in at around 5.00 PM on a Wednesday.

A pool table dominates the centre of the single room, with a couple of lads enthusiastically and noisily enjoying a game. A dartboard is at the back near the gents. There’s nothing in this pub that stood out, other than the Charringtom Brewery mirror that’s the sole item of wall decor. Furnishings are banquettes round the sides, cheap looking pine effect tables with standard chairs, plus chrome framed stools at the bar. There were two TVs on, but muted thankfully as they would have struggled to compete with the raucus pop music.

There was a large group of youngsters at a table on the left, seemingly imprisoned behind a metal balustrade, as well as a fair number of other punters in. It certainly seems like a going concern then. But I found this place a bit charmless and unnecessarily noisy. I'm unlikely to visit again.
