This is a large roadside Fullers pub with a handy location just a short hop from Northfields station. The pub has a good-sized, L-shaped layout, with a traditional, bare boarded interior that has been nicely smartened up by the Fullers’ interior design team. High tables and stools occupy a wide area across the front part of the pub, with the servery running along the rear wall. The bar has one of those distressed-effect, wooden counters which stands in front of a large, mirrored bar back set into a decorative dark wood surround. There’s a two-tone wall colour scheme throughout, which works quite well, and plenty of old reproduction advertisements have been put on display to good effect. The left-hand side of the room has some dining room style tables, with a rug in the centre and a nice fireplace on the back wall, under a large blackboard detailing the menu. The pub runs quite a long way to the rear down the right-hand side, passing a long, comfy looking banquette as it goes, finally emerging into a rear space that also felt a bit like a dining room, although I didn’t see anyone eating here. There’s another space beyond this, which |I didn’t manage to explore and my Saturday evening visit was accompanied by some chilled out background music.
On the bar, Fullers London Pride and ESB were both double clipped, whilst Gales Seafarers was rather impressively quadruple clipped, giving the initial impression of a much wider range than the three standard beers actually available. The Pride came in at £5.50 for a pint and drank pretty well, and the pub has found its way into the Good Beer Guide on occasion in recent years.
It's easy to feel a little jaded when visiting Fullers pubs in this part of town, as there seems to be one on every street corner, but I thought this place did enough to stand out from the crowd. It seems like a well looked after pub with comfortable seating, a relaxed ambiance and some well-kept ale. The beer options could’ve perhaps been a touch more interesting given the breadth of Fullers’ portfolio, but I still found this a satisfying visit and it’s a good place to know about in the dead man’s land between Ealing and Brentford.

Dating from the mid-19th century and supposedly a haunt of Dick Turpin, this incarnation was rebuilt in 1905 in the brewers’ Tudor style.
With a plethora of photos viewable on their website, the floor is modern boarded, punctuated with some kilims, then a contemporary makeover with much smoky blue and white paint and trendy patterned wallpaper, predictable lighting coming from spun metal lampshades and by-the-numbers framed miscellaneous trendy prints, with contemporary furniture; there’s a substantial dining room to the rear. Children were in pretty late in the evening and customers in general were in all probability locals and a more genteel bunch at that.
A Fuller’s line-up elicited a half of Hophead at a pricey £2.85 though in great nick, served by a friendly barman.
This isn’t a bad place and worth including on a crawl, but perhaps the interior is just that little bit overcooked, too fashionable rather than traditional, but I’d still prefer a walk to the Red Lion.
