The interior is essentially unchanged since the previous reviewer’s visit, although I didn’t see any tall tables/tall stools (but they could have been skulking in an alcove somewhere). I did spot a very nice Welsh dresser in the area to right of the bar counter though. Furnishings looked quite comfortable. This pub has a nice location overlooking picturesque Barnes Pond, although there’s a busy main road between the pub and the pond. It has all the appearance of a country pub – and of course Barnes would have been in the country when The Sun was built. The seating out at the front of the pub is enclosed by a hedge and is enhanced by the floral displays, both on the outside of the pub and hanging from the lampposts, presumably maintained by the Council.

And I managed to get a pint (Stonehenge Eye-Opener (£3.90)) for less than £4! The other ales on were London Pride, Doom Bar and Sambrook Junction. Food is obviously available, with main courses starting at about £10 or so. This would be an idyllic spot to sit outside and sink a few pints on a summer’s day – if it wasn’t for the main road. But it’s still a good pub, and I would be happy to pay a return visit.

The pub is situated in an attractive location on Barnes Common opposite the pond and a few picnic benches face this across the road. The interior is a complete labrynth, a simple layout to the front with the bar opposite but then all sorts of alcoves and crannies to the side and rear. Areas are generally divided by dark wood and leaded glass screens, floors are wooden and step up and down as you move around the pub. Seating is mixed, with a fair few high butcher's block type tables, most with posies of flowers, but it's that sort of place, trendy, affluent and foody, an open kitchen and servery is situated to the far rear. Menus on the tables and on chalkboards, not your basic pub fare, slow cooked ox cheek with kale colcannon was £10.75, steaks start at £16.50.
As for the drinks, this is where it happened for me, I knew it was out there but it was the venue for my first £4+ pint. Pride, Doom Bar and Moor Beer Co Somerland Gold, a nice hoppy ale and meaty at 5% but £4.05. My visit wasn't on the 1st of this month either. Hmmm.

Nice pub opposite the village pond. The name is very apt, as the sun hits the garden for most of the afternoon. Has wheelchair access. Areas of the pub can be booked. Real ale on sale and food served all day. Pay a visit.
