Requested be closed with reason - For sale: Closing today, the landlady is retiring after 40 years. Unsure what the future plans are, but going on the fact that the rest of the road is entirely residential, it doesn’t look too good.

A basic, no frills boozer in a residential street that has, I understand, been run by the same landlady for many years. It looks a little dated perhaps with net curtains at the window and an extractor fan mounted in the glass and internally it also looks as though it hasn’t been touched for some time, although I think the laminate flooring may be a new addition since my last visit.

The left hand bar seems to be the main focus of the pub, and this is a fairly small, L-shaped room with some bench seating around the perimeter and a few small tables and chairs. A tiny DJ console and some speakers were squeezed in to one corner, although this was not in use on our visit but there was some reggae music playing in the background. Instead there was an air of relaxed civility with a couple of punters playing a game of chess and a few more chatting away at the bar with the friendly staff. A small TV up in the corner was showing a football match but the volume was off so this was not too intrusive. An unusual selection of (Jamaican?) pipes were hung up behind the bar. The right hand lounge bar has a cosier feel with wooden flooring and more attractive seating, although this was in darkness on a recent Wednesday night.

Beer choice was a little disappointing with just two pumps, one dispensing Doom Bar and the other apparently having run out, with the reversed pump clip showing that it was something from Ruddles. Ciders fared slightly better with Thatcher's Gold and Thatcher’s Dry. Unusually there was also a pump for hot mulled wine. Although this doesn’t have the cosy ambience that I usually look for in a pub, I quite liked it’s relaxed and friendly vibe, and could have happily stayed for a couple more.

The Beaufort was not open when i tried to do it,the pub had scaffolding covering its frontage.
A local in another local pub told me it may reopen at some point in the future.
