1980s Fuller's pub overlooking the Greenland Dock, partly brick-built but its the two-storey curved glazed extension that catches the eye. The interior is surprisingly traditional, as is the unfussy menu, and a first-floor lounge is available for the busy periods. For the better weather (or the desperate smoker), there is also some external seating on a split-level terrace at the front. Thankfully, being a real pub, real ale is offered from a bank of four handpumps: Pride, Oliver's Island, ESB and the seasonal Santa by the Surf (£4.30, and in good shape).

A 1980s built pub in the Surrey Quays complex. As noted below almost all the pub is essentially a giant conservatory that overlooks Greenland dock. No bad thing and it's rather well done. Otherwise it’s is probably much as it was when it opened; some light wood bar fittings, busy pub carpet, chairs and tables reminiscent of the era. Four pumps at the bar, all from Fullers and all on; Seafarers, ESB, Rocky Road and a fairy anaemic Pride (NBSS 2). If the beer was better I'd be up for a revisit.

Undoubtedly named after Captain Ahab’s famous bête noir – or should it be bête blanc in this case? Anyway, it has an enviable location right on Greenland Dock, with good views over the water. It looks as if it is a fairly modern build establishment, and as a previous poster has said, the main area of the pub is effectively a conservatory. But this does have the advantage of making the place very light, and making the most of the view outside. The furnishings include a good few dull blue leather, or perhaps leather effect, sofas, plus some normal tables, chairs and stools. The upholstery on some of the chairs and stools has clearly seen much better days, now being stained and dirty.
It’s a Fuller’s pub, with Pride; ESB; Seafarers; and the seasonal Red Fox on when I was in there this week. There’s a fairly extensive menu – for a pub – with mainly pub grub on offer. The prices seemed OK as well. I had an excellent tuna & mayonnaise sandwich, with some green stuff and a few crisps for £3.95; steak and ale pie, and chips, was £6.95. It’s not going to be the very best Fuller’s pub you’ve ever been in, but it’s OK for what it is, the service was friendly, it has a splendid waterside location and provided me with a welcome refuge on a wet and windy late September Friday afternoon.
